For this project I selected Edgar Allen Poe’s classic tale; The Cask of Amontillado. The goal was to take this classic tale and reinterpret it in a contemporary design.
In order to achieve this I first set out to create a full hand lettered alphabet that would reflect the true gruesome nature of the text.
Then I applied the hand lettered alphabet as drop caps as well as in more illustrative spreads.
The final document is printed on handmade paper to evoke an aesthetic of the past. Contrasted with the contemporary design that brings life to the classic tale.
I applied ink splatters to the hand lettered alphabet as drop caps to contiue with the theme of horror.
Hardcover. Bound by hand.
